Kindergarten

These brand new students are learning what it means to come to the library and borrow a book that they are responsible for. They learned how to check it out by finding their card with their name and then going to the check out station and saying their first and last name. The students also learned how to take care of the book while they have it.

First Grade

First graders are reviewing library procedure and book care. They viewed a photostory made by the fourth graders to help them remember. They are also learning about the different parts of the library as well as books.

Second Grade

Second Graders have learned that they will be helping with a very special project this year! They will be listening to and evaluating 12 picture books. These books have been nominated for the Bill Martin Jr. Picture Book Award given by the Kansas Reading Association. They will vote for their favorite in March. Mrs. Franz will then cast her vote based on the student's selection.

Third Grade

Third graders have been introduced to two opportunities that start in third grade. The first is the chance to help choose this year's winner of the William Allen White Award. The second is to be part of the KU Reading Program and being recognized for their reading achievement. They have also learned how to log into the computers in the library to get to the online catalog.

Fourth Grade

Fourth Graders have learned about the William Allen White Award Nominees and their opportunity to help pick this year's winner. They have also been invited to join the KU Reading Program and be recognized for their reading achievement. New to the library computers have required learning a new way of logging into their student accounts and the online catalog.
